Overview:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Staff Accountant provides management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts, performing day to day accounting transactions such as journal entries for the Corporate entities, performing monthly account reconciliations, and assisting with monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidations of financial statements from the field sites. The incumbent for this role will assist as needed with internal audit and tax requests, compliance and controls associated with SOX requirements, as well as develop and deliver ad hoc reporting. This role will report to the Manager of Accounting.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze financial results including comparisons to budgets/prior periods, investigate variances and recommend corrective actions

  • Prepare ad hoc financial analyses

  • Use initiative to drive process improvements, assist in updating and implementing policy and procedures for all subsidiaries

  • Perform quarterly reviews of subsidiary balance sheet account reconciliations and provide recommendations for improvements

  • Lead monthly and year-end close procedures including account analysis, journal entries and account reconciliations for Corporate Office, including intercompany and Corporate allocations with domestic and foreign subsidiaries

  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data

  • Assist with year-end financial statement audit and annual compliance audits

  • Maintain fixed assets software for Corporate Office

  • Assist with company-wide system integration

  • Assist with projects related to acquisitions

  • Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience/Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in public or corporate accounting required.

  • Good working knowledge of GAAP required.

  • Minimum of intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Master's degree in Accounting or other related field preferred.

  • Three (3) or more years of public or corporate accounting experience preferred.

  • CPA a plus.

  • Manufacturing experience a plus.

  • Experience with IFS ERP system a plus.

  • HFM experience a plus.

  • Professional Presentation Skills – ability to use PowerPoint to develop fact based presentations.

  • Interpersonal skills: Ability to work independently and on a team, displaying diplomacy in day-to-day interactions and working effectively with internal and external partners to Newell Brands and all its divisions. Displays a positive, proactive work ethic and approach.

  • Communication: Strong ability both verbal and written.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Sitting at workstation approximately 85 percent of work time. Standing and walking approximately 15 percent of work time.

  • Must be able to travel up to five (5) percent of work time. Travel may include automobile of airline transportation and may include overnight says.

  • Ability to work overtime or occasionally on weekends with short notice.

  • Typical office environment with shelves, overhead and above work surfaces.
