Job Summary : The District Sales Manager is responsible to drive district sales and profitability plan to meet or exceed sales revenue to budget; recruit, hire, train and develop a "sales" oriented team; handle both positive/negative Human Resource issues through coaching, documenting, praising/rewarding, disciplining, and communicating with the Regional Sales Director and HR Generalist; lead by example as a "Sales Leader" in the stores by teaching and demonstrating Yankee Candle standards; responsible for all visual presentation and standards by ensuring the effective implementation of all visual direction with urgency and proper planning, ensure that total presentation and display of merchandise is impactful, customer focused and maximizes sales, provide guidance on controlling expenses by reviewing P&L statements, proper use of the labor model and scheduling, ensure successful new store openings through coordinating, organizing, developing and executing an opening plan through grand opening day.

Scope: The District Sales Manager provides direction and leadership to a group of assigned Yankee Candle Retail Stores; drives sales & profitability; provides exemplary guest service, ensures visual merchandising/presentation and operational standards; recruits, staffs, coaches and develops store management teams and sales associates as a part of our Succession Plan; meets or exceeds divisional and district sales and profitability goals.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-5 years multi-unit retail management experience (specialty retail preferred) with increasing responsibility required with high school diploma or equivalent plus 2 to 4 (preferably) years of college or equivalent.

  • Experience recruiting, hiring, training and developing sales staff is necessary.

  • Ability to act as leader, diplomat, coach, counselor, trainer, investigator, facilitator, etc., as needed depending upon the situation.

  • Proven record of achieving and maintaining successful sales goals, P&L responsibility and inventory control.

  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to delegate effectively with appropriate follow-up.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated computer skills.

  • Demonstrated understanding of high quality service techniques and philosophy, including, customer service, problem/complaint resolution, and clear ability to effectively perform and train these tasks in a retail setting

  • Ability to travel using company-car and/or plane occasionally with minimal notice.
