Summary: Automatic Machine Operator/Trainer trains new employees on how to use an automatic sewing machine and/or operates an automatic sewing machine to join materials together. These materials include but are not limited to pre-cut fabric, webbing, buckles, reflective tape, cords, labels, and vinyl components, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by management as necessary.

  • Operates an automatic sewing machine to join materials together.

  • Position pre-cut fabric and components (reflective, tabs, patches, labels, etc.) to be joined under the presser foot/clamp and needle.

  • Starts and stops machine with foot pedal.

  • Monitors stitching to detect defects to insure acceptable quality.

  • Capable of conducting root cause analysis and adjusting the positioning of fabric and webbing to make acceptable parts from a seam allowance standpoint.

  • Threads machine, winds and changes the bobbin.

  • Cuts excessive material or thread with scissors / nippers when necessary.

  • Routinely checks fabric for defects, runs, stains, missed stitches, etc.

  • Performs required daily machine maintenance and adjustments.Includes but is not limited to dusting machine, wiping off oil.

  • Notifies sewing machine repair person when experiencing problems with machine.

  • Completes required documentation including but not limited to recording production quantities, downtime, scrap, etc.,

  • Responsible for injury prevention and promoting safety by keeping work area neat, clean and organized. Notifies management of safety issues and concerns.

  • Performs miscellaneous other assignments as required.

  • Requires regular attendance to perform essential elements as listed above between the assigned start and end times for work.

  • This position will be training on all recreational items, including:

1. Adult, Youth, Child Infant-Basic

2. Adult, Youth, Child, -Deluxe

3. Puddle Jumper

4. Type II

5. Boat Cushion

  • Training will include: 1. Large Automatic Machine (Cell) 2. Small Automatic Machine (Box X Bar Tack) 3. Turning

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with other employees in the organization. Ability to interact and communicate with co-workers on all business related issues.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to read numbers, count, add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Measure using a ruler.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to comply with company’s and regulatory agencies quality standards.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time. The employee is required to use fingers, hands and arms to operate machines and reach for, hold, grasp, push/pull, and handle material repetitively with a high degree of dexterity. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to limited moving mechanical equipment.
